Louis van Gaal has revealed he has a three-step plan to put Manchester United back at the pinnacle of European football.

The experienced Dutch manager took over at Old Trafford this summer and inherited a team which finished seventh in the Premier League last term and as a result have no European football at all this season.

Van Gaal is aiming to change that this season and has set the very highest of targets for his time in charge of the Red Devils.

"We are building up a new team and I hope we will succeed", he told a press conference, via his club's feed.

"I hope we are in the top four this season and then the next step is to be champions, then the winners of Champions League", he continued.

However, Van Gaal is clear that he is full of confidence about the future for Manchester United, despite still looking for his first win in charge of the club, and has full belief in his methods.
