Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with the agent of Montpellier midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, pulling back in the race for Paris Saint-Germain starlet Adrien Rabiot.

Stambouli is expected to leave Montpellier this summer and has attracted interest from Marseille and Swansea City.

Now Spurs have thrown their hat into the ring for the Frenchman by contacting the player's agent, according to French radio station RMC.

The 24-year-old has just one year left to run on his contract at the Stade de la Mosson and is on the lookout for a new challenge.

Tottenham have yet to contact or open talks with Montpellier, but the move would be a logical next step for Mauricio Pochettino's men.
