Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has handed record signing Angel di Maria his debut against Burnley in the Premier League today and expressed his wish that the Argentine adapt to the team and vice versa.

Di Maria landed at Manchester United earlier this week for a fee of £59.7m and Van Gaal has wasted little time in throwing the former Real Madrid man into Premier League action.

Van Gaal told BT Sport: "Angel di Maria will be an important player for us.

"He has to show that he shall adapt to the English culture quickly and the English way of playing. His fellow players have to adapt to his qualities too."

Van Gaal also insisted that he expects Burnley to adopt a long-ball approach and warned his side to be ready for it at Turf Moor.

"We have to beat the opponent. We take into account the qualities of Burnley and they are playing with the long balls, we have to win the second ball and then play our own game. Our build-up play is always important, that is the foundation and starts our game.

"Our first game was a loss, then a draw so maybe today we have our first win."

Manchester United Team To Play Burnley: David de Gea, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Tyler Blackett, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher, Angel di Maria, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie.
