Fernando Torres admits it would be a "privilege" to wear the number 9 shirt at AC Milan and explained he is looking forward to returning to the level of performances that made his name.

The striker is joining Milan on a two-year loan deal from Chelsea and will be tasked with replacing Mario Balotelli, who has been sold to Liverpool.

Torres slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, having failed to produce the performances that persuaded Cheslea to pay Liverpool £50m to sign him in January 2011.

Now he is aiming to turn back the clock in Italy with the Rossoneri.

Speaking to the Milan Channel, Torres said: "Number 9? Sure, I'd love to wear it and it would be a privilege to play at the level expected from me.

"I'm happy to have arrived at Milan and I cannot wait to meet the fans and my team-mates and begin this adventure."

Torres also explained that he is looking to help Milan qualify for the Champions League, though knows it will be tough.

"When you play for Milan there are high expectations and everyone wants to get back into the Champions League.

"It will be a great challenge to get into the three places and get back into the Champions League for the 2015/16 season."
