Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has expressed his dissatisfaction at England manager Roy Hodgson’s comments on Luke Shaw’s fitness.

The Dutchman was not impressed with the full-back’s fitness in Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the US and made him undergo extra sessions to get the England international back to peak fitness.

Shaw is currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury and is not expected to feature until next month.

Hodgson said yesterday that he had raised concerns about the 19-year-old’s fitness in the World Cup.

"[Shaw] might have had it mentioned to him a couple of times during the World Cup by people like myself and [physio] Gary Lewin", said Hodgson.

"If Louis thinks that he can get him fitter then I'm sure he will certainly have our approval."

However, Van Gaal is not impressed by the England manager’s public criticism of Shaw and said that Hodgson should be careful about what he says.

"Roy Hodgson cannot judge at this moment", Van Gaal was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I have never seen him here at a United training session."

"I think Roy is referring to the World Cup. It is possible, I don't know. That is what I want to ask. But now Shaw is doing a great job."
