Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes his side are making progress, despite still not having won a game this season.

Van Gaal threw new signing Angel di Maria into action today against newly promoted Burnley in the Premier League, but saw his side struggle to break down the Clarets, despite enjoying the lion's share of possession.

And Van Gaal, who saw his side lose 4-0 in midweek League Cup action to MK Dons, believes a failure to create and take chances was the reason behind the draw.

"We were the stronger team, certainly in the second half", he told BT Sport.

"We created chances but you have to score. That is where we have failed. The progress is there but you have to win."

The Dutchman, whose side have not won any of their opening Premier League games, has termed the club's current form "disappointing".

"A club like Manchester United has to win. We have two points from nine and that's disappointing", Van Gaal said.

The Dutchman pulled off new signing Di Maria in the 70th minute at Turf Moor, replacing him with Anderson.
