Arsenal have pulled out of the race to sign Loic Remy from QPR, leaving Chelsea free to complete the capture of the Frenchman.

Chelsea activated Remy's release clause at QPR yesterday, leading to Hoops boss Harry Redknapp pulling him out of the club's squad against Sunderland, a game the Rs won 1-0.

Later in the evening it emerged that Arsenal had also met Remy's release clause sum, leaving the choice up to the striker as to where he wished to head.

But according to the BBC, Arsenal have now pulled out of the chase, suggesting they learned Remy was set on linking up with Jose Mourinho's men.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is now expected to look elsewhere for a striker, having lost Olivier Giroud until the new year through injury.

Chelsea meanwhile want Remy to replace Fernando Torres, who has joined AC Milan on a two-year loan deal which effectively marks the end of his Blues career.

Remy spent last term on loan at Newcastle United and scored 14 Premier League goals for the Magpies.
