Manchester United could pull a dramatic rabbit out of the transfer hat in the form of Radamel Falcao after holding talks with the striker's agent Jorge Mendes.

The Red Devils are currently offloading Javier Hernandez to Real Madrid on a loan deal and will have an open spot for one striker.

Falcao is desperately looking for the Monaco exit door and did not feature in his side's Ligue 1 clash with Lille this weekend, instead watching on from the stands, with Mendes sitting next to him.

Manchester City have emerged as a potential destination, ahead of Real Madrid, whose interest in the Colombian appears set to come to an end with the signing of Hernandez.

However, Manchester United could yet prove a shock destination, after officials from the English club spoke to Mendes in the last few hours, according to French radio station RMC.

The scramble for Falcao is now set to pick up pace as the transfer deadline approaches, though with the striker's yearly pay packet being €12m, clubs are taking their time about a move.

Manchester City, who have also spoken to Mendes, are thought to have asked for information about Falcao's knee, with the striker having damaged his cruciate ligament in Monaco action earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Valencia and Juventus are two clubs who are continuing to monitor developments.

Monaco favour selling Falcao on an outright basis, rather than sending him out on loan.
