Athletic Bilbao remain interested in Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal as the transfer clock ticks down.

The Basque side, who have lost a number of players this summer, not least midfielder Ander Herrera to Manchester United, are hoping to add to their squad.

And according to Spanish daily Marca, Monreal is still on their list.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will consider selling the left-back before the window closes, especially as he may feel the need to buy a replacement.

Monreal has been facing fierce competition for a starting spot at Arsenal from Kieran Gibbs and warmed the bench in last season's FA Cup final.

However, with Gibbs having suffered an injury last month, Monreal started for Arsenal in their 1-1 draw at Leicester City yesterday.

The Gunners scooped Monreal up from Malaga in January 2013.
