Everton have been linked with making a late move for Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley, who is on the wanted list at Aston Villa.

The Toffees recently suffered an injury blow to Ross Barkley and Cleverley could be turned to by boss Roberto Martinez to plug the gap.

According to the BBC, Martinez is a big admirer of the England international and could try his luck with a deadline day beating move.

However, if the Spaniard does go for Cleverley, he faces opposition from Aston Villa.

Paul Lambert is keen to add Cleverley to his ranks before the transfer window closes and is thought to be leading the race.

Manchester United are ready to offload Cleverley and have targeted shifting a number of fringe players out of the exit door.
