Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise will be competing in the Champions League this season after signing for Cypriot side APOEL.

Riise departed Fulham earlier this year, after failing to help the Cottagers avoid relegation from the Premier League.

He has been on the lookout for a new club and, after much consideration, has penned a two-year deal with APOEL.

That means Riise will play in the Champions League this season, as APOEL have been drawn alongside Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax in their group.

"I am very pleased", Riise said in a statement.
