Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is on the verge of joining AS Roma on a season-long loan deal.

The Frenchman joined the Magpies from Ligue 1 side Montpellier in January last year and still has four years left on his contract.

The 25-year-old made 23 league appearances for the club last season, but is yet to feature for Newcastle this season.

Roma, who are in the market to sign a defender this summer, kept a close eye on Yanga-Mbiwa and have made a late move for the French defender.

The Giallorossi are set to sign the French international on a season-long loan deal, according to Sport Mediaset.
