Sunderland have completed the season-long loan signing of Argentine midfielder Ricardo Alvarez from Italian giants Inter.

Alvarez made 90 appearances in all for Inter, scoring 14 goals, and has been quick to express his delight at the switch to the Stadium of Light.

The 26-year-old told Sunderland's site: "I’m very happy to be here. It’s a great opportunity, a great club and I’m looking forward to playing in England and playing my part for Sunderland."

Alvarez becomes Sunderland's ninth signing of the summer and second signing of transfer deadline day, following Sebastian Coates into the club.

He started his career at Velez Sarsfield in Argentine before heading to link up with Inter in 2011.
