Real Betis have lodged a bid for Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik, but Celtic are expected to oppose the Spanish side for the defender's signature before the transfer window slams shut.

Kana-Biyik, who turns out for French Ligue 1 side Rennes, could not agree a move to West Ham recently, however is still set to head for the exit door.

Betis, who were relegated from La Liga last term, have now submitted a firm offer for the 25-year-old, according to L'Equipe.

However, Celtic have not given up the chase for Kana-Biyik and could battle Betis for his signature.

The powerful defender was developed in the youth ranks at Le Havre and headed to link up with Rennes in 2010.
