Sassuolo striker Leonardo Pavoletti has refused a last minute move to Leeds United.

The Yorkshire giants had been hopeful of signing Pavoletti before the window slammed shut and even made room by selling Matt Smith to Fulham earlier today, for £500,000.

But according to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, Pavoletti, after considering Leeds' offer, decided to stay put in Italy.

Pavoletti spent last season with Varese in Serie B and scored 20 goals in 36 games.

He will now continue his career in Italy and it remains to be seen if Leeds will rekindle their interest in the striker when the transfer window opens again in January.

Pavoletti had been chased by Genoa earlier this summer, while Cesena and Palermo were also on his tail.
