Manchester United held talks with Tottenham Hotspur last night over a proposed loan deal for Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck, who is a product of Manchester United’s youth academy, has grown frustrated with the lack of opportunities at the club.

Louis van Gaal prefers the partnership of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie and with Radamel Falcao’s imminent move to Old Trafford, the England striker is not expected to feature much this season.

Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in securing his services on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United.

However, Spurs are believed to be the favourites to land the 23-year-old and have been in negotiations with the Red Devils.
