Xabi Alonso has insisted that he regards his move to Bayern Munich as an important step in his career on a personal and professional level.

In the club's official presentation of the player on Monday, the former Real Madrid midfielder said he acknowledges the pressure he is under as a member of the Bundesliga giants' team.

"I'm aware you're expected to win every game at Bayern", the 32-year-old explained.

"I know this from Real Madrid. It's a good type of pressure."

Alonso signed a two-year deal with the Bavarians for an undisclosed fee on Friday, ending his second five-year senior spell in Spain.

Despite the official press conference taking place yesterday, the midfielder featured for Bayern Munich at the weekend and played an integral part in his team's 1-1 draw against Schalke, managing a successful pass rate of 90%.

"It's an honour and a privilege to be here in Munich", the Spaniard insisted.

"It's a fantastic step for me both as a professional footballer and a person."

With a ten-day international break now looming, the retired Spanish international has plenty of time to become accustomed to his new environment and find out more about his new home city.

“I've been to Munich before, and as a tourist too. It's a fantastic city. I'm looking forward to getting to know the city and the culture”, he said.
