Denmark coach Morten Olsen admits he cannot get his head around Liverpool parting ways with Daniel Agger and feels the Merseyside club have made a big mistake by selling the talented defender.

Liverpool made Agger surplus to requirements this summer, but were forced to sell the 29-year-old to his former club Brondby after the player himself made it clear he would not join any other club; as a result Liverpool are thought to have banked just £3m for Agger.

Olsen now does not have far to travel to watch Agger in action, but the Denmark boss cannot understand why the centre-back is not still at Anfield.

"I think Liverpool have made a mistake in letting a class player go. For me it is incomprehensible", Olsen told Danish daily BT.

"But it is a choice they have more or less made by not picking him."

Olsen though also has words of praise for Brondby by managing to bring such a highly rated player back to the Danish Superliga, and feels he could reap the benefit for the national team.

"At the same time, huge congratulations must go to Brondby. It is a huge surprise and a scoop for Brondby and the Superliga in general.

"He has brought extra status to Brondby and therefore he will be focused on every match and thus be focused when he plays for the national team.

"He is such a talented footballer, it can be an advantage for the national team that he has switched to the Superliga, because the Premier League is so physically tough, so here he might get a little more rest and not pick up injuries as often as we have seen."
