Fabio Borini's agent has revealed a major European club wanted to sign his client on loan, but Liverpool blocked the move, while QPR were not willing to treat his client as an "important player".

The Italian forward saw Liverpool accept offers from QPR and Sunderland, but on a frantic deadline day, could not seal a permanent move away from Anfield.

Borini rejected the chance to head to Sunderland, where he spent last term on loan, while his wage demands proved impossible for QPR to meet.

He has now stayed put at Liverpool but, his agent claims, only because the Reds would not agree to loan him.

"Liverpool, who still have a two-year contract with the player, decided not to consider any proposal related to a loan", Marco De Marchi told FC Inter News.

"I can say that I was contacted by a very important club at European level.

"By many European clubs, who wanted loan deals."

And De Marchi feels that if QPR were willing to pay such a substantial sum to sign his client, they should have been willing to reflect that in their wage offer, something which was not the case.

"Liverpool did not allow it [a loan] and the final thing came from the situation with QPR who made an important offer to buy him right away.

"If we consider that he is an important player to merit an important offer, then the player should be treated as an important player.

"For me, the conditions for this to happen were lacking on both sides."
