Eric Dier has pulled out of the England Under-21 squad ahead of the team's matches against Lithuania and Moldova this week.

Spurs' summer signing has withdrawn following an injury, the extent of which is currently unknown, and has returned to Tottenham for treatment.

The 20-year-old, who was only recently signed by the Lilywhites, has adapted well to life in the Premier League after joining Spurs from Sporting Lisbon.

The defender has featured in all three league matches for his new club so far and scored the winning goal against West Ham as well as finding the net against QPR.

Having represented England five times as an Under-21 player since 2013, he will now miss two of the 2015 Under-21 European Championship qualifying matches, with the Three Lions travelling to Lithuania (Friday 5th September) and Moldova (Tuesday 9th September).

With Dier having made his presence felt in the Premier League already, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will be eager for the young player to receive a clean bill of health quickly and avoid being sidelined for a lengthy period so soon at the start of the new season.
