Cagliari sporting director Francesco Marroccu has explained the club's decision to allow Brazilian midfielder Adryan to leave for Leeds United.

Adryan joined Cagliari on loan from Flamengo at the start of this year, with the Serie A club having a purchase option included in the deal.

The club then handed the playmaker the number 10 shirt this summer in a sign of his importance. But Adryan was allowed to join Leeds, who took over his loan from Flamengo, before the transfer window slammed shut.

Marroccu insists the decision to allow the 20-year-old to leave was not just one of a sporting or economic nature, but both combined, with an assessment having been made.

"As regards departures, on Adryan the decision was made which was both technical and economic", he was quoted as saying by Tutto Mercato.

The Cagliari deal-maker soothed fears about having lost defender Dario Del Fabro however, another young starlet who headed to Leeds.

Del Fabro, who joined Leeds on loan for the season, will return, Marroccu claims.

"Del Fabro will return to Cagliari on 30th June", he said.
