Fiorentina have included Giuseppe Rossi in their squad list for the Europa League despite the striker being sidelined with a knee injury.

The Italian international will undergo knee surgery later this week, but is not expected to be out of action for long.

Rossi has already undergone two separate knee surgeries to reconstruct his cruciate ligaments.

However, La Viola have taken a chance and have included the former Manchester United striker, hoping that he will take part in the competition at some stage.

"We love Rossi for who he is, not just the player", Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade told the club's official site.

"To know that he is still not well makes us feel bad. He must check how his meniscus is and we are anxious but we have to be optimistic regarding his recovery."

Rossi joined Fiorentina in January last year, but injuries have restricted him to only 25 appearances for the club where he has scored 17 goals.
