Radamel Falcao's father has claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool were amongst the sides to express an interest in signing his son this summer.

The Colombia international striker joined Manchester United on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day, arriving from Monaco on an agreement which also gives the English club the right to make the player's move permanent next summer for €55m.

Falcao had been linked with leaving Monaco all summer, with Real Madrid and Manchester City then swapping places as favourites to sign him over a frantic last 48 hours of the transfer window, before Manchester United stole in and did a deal.

Now the player's father, Radamel Garcia, has lifted the lid on exactly who wanted his son.

"The clubs that showed an interest in him were Juventus, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal at the last minute", the striker's father told Colombian radio station LA FM.

He also claimed his son would have been content to remain at Monaco, where he was happy.

"He was very happy at Monaco but unfortunately, they changed the original plan and decided to sell the players they had bought."

Falcao has been handed the number 9 shirt at Old Trafford.
