Manchester United legend Eric Cantona believes Radamel Falcao can now die a happy man after joining the Red Devils.

Falcao was snapped up by Manchester United late on Monday night, just beating the transfer deadline to ink a season-long loan from Monaco. The English side will pay Monaco €10m to take Falcao for the season and have the right to make his move a permanent one for a fee of €55m next summer.

Cantona, who is a legend at Old Trafford from his spell at the club between 1992 and 1997, feels the Colombian has now reached the very pinnacle of football.

Asked for his view on Manchester United's signing of Falcao, Cantona told Canal +: "Falcao can die happy.

"He has now reached the top of football.

"After Manchester, you can only go down."

Cantona picked up four Premier League titles and two FA Cups at Old Trafford, helping to establish Manchester United as the dominant force in English football.

Falcao has not picked up Cantona's famous number 7 shirt with the Red Devils however. That honour has gone to another summer signing in the shape of Angel di Maria, who cost £59.7m to sign from Real Madrid.
