Spanish striker Diego Costa has urged his team to forget about their disappointment in Brazil and "turn over a new leaf" in the European qualifiers.

The 2010 World Cup winners take on Macedonia in a Group E match on Monday and Costa along with his national team-mates will look forward to the match with great excitement, particularly after the disappointment of the World Cup.

The Spaniards had a tough outing in Brazil where they were knocked out of the tournament from the group stage after losing two of their three matches.

Costa admitted that it was not the level of performance that everyone expected from his team and they are now determined to bounce back from the disappointment.

"I can't want to start again with the national side because Brazil was not what we expected", Costa told UEFA's official site.

"I, for one, know that I didn't give the level of performance everyone was expecting, and neither did the side as a whole.

"What has happened is in the past and we have to turn over a new leaf.

"It's important to have [Vicente] Del Bosque's confidence to be in a team like Spain's.

"I want to do things well so I can keep coming back. I still need to score and play well with Spain."
