Former Liverpool striker Florent Sinama Pongolle is heading to play his football in the MLS by signing a contract with Chicago Fire.

The 29-year-old, who had until recently been turning out in Russia with FC Rostov, has penned a contract running until 31st December with the American side.



The deal also contains an option allowing for it to be extended for a further two years if both parties are happy.

Sinama Pongolle joined Liverpool as a highly rated youngster from Le Havre in 2001, being tipped for big things.

 


He spent a further two years on loan at Le Havre before formally arriving at Liverpool and helped the club to the Champions League in 2005, playing a key role in their progression in the tournament, scoring in a famous comeback win over Olympiacos.

Struggling to cement a regular spot in the Liverpool side, Sinama Pongolle joined Blackburn Rovers on loan before sealing a permanent exit to Spanish outfit Recreativo.

The 29-year-old also counts Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Real Zaragoza and Saint-Etienne amongst his former clubs.
