Barcelona have confirmed that Luis Suarez is eligible to make his debut against Real Madrid on 25th October.

Suarez is currently serving a four-month ban sanctioned by FIFA for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup.

The ban didn’t stop the Uruguayan from moving to Barcelona this summer from Liverpool for a transfer fee of €81m.

He has represented Barcelona in friendly fixtures, but is barred from playing in competitive fixtures due to the ban.

However, Barcelona confirmed that Suarez’s sanction expires before El Clasico next month and he will be eligible for selection.

“CAS confirmed to FC Barcelona that the Uruguayan forward's sanction expires the day before", read a statement on the Catalan club's site.

"Therefore, Suarez will be able to make his official debut in the match against Real Madrid if that is what [coach] Luis Enrique decides."

However, Suarez is still not eligible to play for Uruguay as FIFA also banned him for nine international fixtures.
