Sunderland new boy Ricky Alvarez has expressed his eagerness to start working with his new manager Gus Poyet, who he believes is a "good coach."

The playmaker arrived from Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal on deadline day and will be available for selection for the Black Cats for their match against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Speaking about his new manager, the 26-year-old said that Poyet had convinced him to sign for the club by telling him about how pleased he would be to have Alvarez at the Stadium of Light.

He also thanked the manager for making the transition process easier for him and now he can't wait to start training with his new squad.

“I have had the opportunity to speak to him on a couple of occasions and he really does seem a very good coach", Alvarez told his club's official site.

“He spoke to me of his desire and how keen he was to have me here and that really has made me very hopeful.

"So I can’t wait to train with the rest of the squad.

"I am looking forward to working hard and doing things in the right way."
