The agent of Arsenal forward Joel Campbell admits that his client was wooed by a number of Italian clubs this summer, but insists only Fiorentina made a firm bid.

The Costa Rica international saw his stock skyrocket over the last year, with a fine loan spell at Olympiacos added to a World Cup campaign where his country reached the quarter-finals.

There were question marks over whether Arsene Wenger would find a spot for Campbell at the Emirates Stadium, something which alerted a number of Italian sides.

"I had a lot of phone calls from Italy", Campbell's agent Joaquim Bata told Canale FGM.

"Joel was charmed by AC Milan and AS Roma, so he wanted to be contacted by both clubs.

"There was contact with the Rossoneri, who saw him as an alternative to Mattia Destro.

"But the only club who really made a bid were Fiorentina. But in the end they eventually did not come."

Campbell has ended up staying up at the Emirates Stadium and has stated his hope for first team chances under Wenger at Arsenal this term.

His prospects will no doubt be followed closely by his suitors in advance of the January transfer window.
