New AC Milan midfielder Marco van Ginkel is aiming to become the new Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, after modelling his game on the English pair.

Van Ginkel was snapped up by Chelsea from Vitesse Arnhem last summer, with talk at the time that Blues boss Jose Mourinho saw the Dutchman as the natural successor to Lampard at Stamford Bridge.

But Van Ginkel missed most of last term through injury and has been sent on loan for the season to AC Milan to build up his playing time ahead of a return to Chelsea.

Now Van Ginkel has opened up to Rossoneri fans as to what they can expect from him.

"I'm a box to box midfielder", he told Milan Channel.

"I can defend as well as attack.

"My idols were Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. Now I have been on the pitch with those guys, I realise that there are not many differences between us", the Dutchman added.

Van Ginkel will hope to put himself in the mix to feature for AC Milan this coming weekend away against Parma in Serie A.
