Belgium physio Lieven Maesschalck believes that striker Christian Benteke is closing on a return and will be back playing with club side Aston Villa sooner rather than later.

Benteke has been out for six months after rupturing his Achilles, an injury which prevented him from playing any part in the World Cup for Belgium.

Maesschalck insists Benteke has been working overtime in a bid to recover from his injury and light can now be seen at the end of what was a dark tunnel.

The Belgium physio told Sporza: "The recovery process went as planned.

"For the last five months Christian has worked very hard.

"That work has paid off because he's definitely returning for Aston Villa.

"Everything has happened as we hoped and I expect him to be back on the pitch by the end of the month."

If Maesschalck's prediction holds true, Benteke could return to action in time for Aston Villa's trip to Chelsea on 27th September.
