Manchester United defender Jonny Evans admits he is sad to see midfielder Tom Cleverley and striker Danny Welbeck leave the club, but feels they have secured good moves.

Cleverley has joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan and is aiming to clock up regular playing time at Villa Park, while Welbeck has departed for Arsenal in a permanent transfer, setting his heart on being deployed as a central striker by the Gunners.

Both are Manchester United youth products and Evans, a fellow academy graduate, is sorry to see the pair depart.

"It’s sad to see Tom go out on loan and Danny Welbeck leave, but I think they’re two fantastic moves", the defender said via his club's site.

"The most important thing for Tom is he wants to play football the way he was doing a few years ago. Aston Villa is a great club with a great stadium. They have a good manager and Roy Keane as assistant so he’ll help him.

"I think Danny will fit in to Arsenal’s style of play very well. He’s under-rated in terms of his link-up play and the things he can do around the edge of the box", he added.

Welbeck has been handed his Arsenal debut today against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium, while Cleverley will look to be involved when Aston Villa take on Liverpool at Anfield.
