Belgium coach Marc Wilmots believes Divock Origi spending the season on loan at Lille before joining Liverpool next summer is the right call.

Liverpool snapped up Origi from Lille earlier this summer, but under the terms of the deal loaned him back to the French club for the current campaign.

For Wilmots, who sprung a surprise by selecting Origi in his Belgium World Cup squad, the young striker staying in France for a further year is a good idea, with the coach concerned if he had instantly moved to Liverpool he would play very little.

"I was afraid that at a big club he would not play as much. There [at Lille] he may develop quietly", Wilmots told L'Equipe.

"When he came into the national team, no one knew him.

"But I had great feedback on his mentality and his determination for someone of 19 years old, when he moved up front."

And Wilmots, who admits Origi shone at the World Cup, wants the young striker to keep his feet on the ground.

"For him, the World Cup changed his situation.

"But I intend to keep his feet on the ground."
