Louis van Gaal has warned Manchester United starlet Tyler Blackett that he is enjoying a run of luck as several of his rivals for a spot in the side are injured.

Blackett, who Van Gaal handed a number of starts to in the club's pre-season tour of the United States, gained plaudits for his performance in a 4-0 Premier League win over QPR at Old Trafford earlier today.

However, Van Gaal does not want the 20-year-old to get carried away and believe a regular spot in the club's backline is his.

And Van Gaal believes Blackett can thank a stroke of luck for his opportunity to impress with the Red Devils.

"OK [he did well], but he is a little bit lucky because a lot of central defenders are injured", the former Bayern Munich coach told the BBC.

"Phil Jones is injured, [Chris] Smalling is injured and I can play [Marcos] Rojo also as a central defender. [Luke] Shaw is injured, but now coming back.

"He had a very good performance, but there are also other defenders still to come", Van Gaal warned.

Nevertheless, Blackett will hope to have done enough to retain his spot in the side for next weekend's Premier League clash, which sees Manchester United head to the King Power Stadium to face Nigel Pearson's Leicester City.

The defender is a product of Manchester United's youth system, having joined the club initially as an eight-year-old.
