Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has signalled his willingness to sign a new contract with the Merseyside giants and suggested it does not depend on their continued participation in the Champions League.

The Reds secured a return to Europe's top tier competition for this season by finishing second in the Premier League last term.

And Coutinho has been considered a runaway success at Anfield since joining Liverpool from Italian giants Inter in January 2013.

A new contract has been talked about for the Brazilian, whose fine form earned him a Brazil international recall recently.

And he is open to it, even if Liverpool were to fall out of the Champions League once again.

"I would be happy to look at a new contract", the 22-year-old was quoted as saying by Tutto Mercato.

"It is very important for me to play in the Champions League, but staying here does not depend just on that", Coutinho added.

Coutinho clocked up 33 appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool last season, scoring five goals.
