Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has explained that their 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Saturday felt like a defeat to his side.

Spurs, who succumbed to a 3-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool before the international break, twice took the lead against the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light, through Nacer Chadli and Christian Eriksen.

But Gus Poyet’s side managed to draw level on both occasions, courtesy of an Adam Johnson strike and a late Harry Kane own-goal.

And Rose, who was pleased with Tottenham’s response from the Liverpool game, was however left utterly disappointed with the weekend’s result as he felt his side dropped two points despite dominating proceedings against Sunderland.

“We’re all disappointed, the lads, the gaffer, all the staff”, he told the club’s official site.

“You can sense something like that happening when you are on the pitch and you don’t take your chances.

“The response from the Liverpool game was brilliant. I don’t think anyone could argue with that.

“We played well, controlled the game, created chances and hit the woodwork twice but we didn’t finish it off and we were punished.

“It’s two points dropped and in a way, it even feels like a defeat. As I said, we’re all bitterly disappointed.”

Tottenham, who are currently sixth in the Premier League with seven points from four games, will next face Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday.
