Leeds United president Massimo Cellino has asserted that he won’t be influenced by agents while appointing the next head coach at the club.

The Italian decided to pull the plug on the ill-fated reign of David Hockaday and his assistant Junior Lewis last month after a poor start to the season for Leeds in the Championship.

Hockaday was a left field choice for the club as the Englishman’s only previous experience in management was at Conference side Forest Green Rovers, where he was sacked last year.

Former Leeds players Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler have already been linked with a move to the club and earlier today former Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella’s name cropped up as a possible replacement for Hockaday.

However, Cellino insisted that his decision to appoint a new head coach will not be influenced anyone, especially by football agents.

"There are many people in football being mentioned to me and the club", the president told the club’s official site.

"But I can say that we will not be influenced by agents.

"We have people that we want to speak to about the head coach position but this will not be done through agents.”

The Italian stressed that a number of candidates are interested in working under him at a big club such as Leeds, but said he wants to ensure due diligence before making a decision.

"Leeds United is a big club and there are many people who want to be the head coach, but we have to make the right decision for Leeds United.

"We are working hard to make the right choice."

Neil Redfearn has been acting as the caretaker manager at Leeds United since Hockaday was sacked.
