Dejan Lovren is of the opinion that playing in the Champions League with Lyon is not the same thing as representing Liverpool in the competition, ahead of the Reds’ fixture with Ludogorets Razgrad tonight.

The defender, who joined Brendan Rodgers’ side from Southampton this summer, is set to make his Champions League debut for the Merseyside giants against the Bulgarian outfit, as Liverpool make their return to the tournament after a gap of five years.

Featuring in the Champions League is not new to Lovren as he possesses experience of playing in the continental tournament with French club Lyon.

However, the Croatian international, who considers Liverpool a “bigger club” than Lyon, is looking forward to witnessing the atmosphere at Anfield during a Champions League fixture.

"The Champions League is the Champions League – it's a big part of football”, Lovren told a press conference.

It's not the same thing to play for Lyon in the Champions League and for Liverpool. I know Liverpool is a bigger club.

"In front of the crowd, it will be something different than the Premier League, especially at home. It will be a massive game.”
