Adnan Januzaj insists he did not produce a match-winning display against Sunderland in Manchester United Under-21s' clash against the Black Cats last night for anyone else other than himself.

After breaking through into the Manchester United first team under David Moyes last season, Januzaj faces a tougher fight for regular minutes on the pitch under the Scot's successor Louis van Gaal.

He started on the bench for Manchester United's 4-0 win over QPR on Sunday, though did get a taste of the action.

And last night the Belgium winger hit a hat-trick as Manchester United Under-21s demolished Sunderland Under-21s 4-0 in the Under-21 Premier League.

Asked by MUTV if he felt his attitude and application at Under-21 level would impress Van Gaal, Januzaj replied: "I think I do it myself.

"I don't for it for any other people but for myself. I look after my [performance].

"Even if I have to play Under-18s, I have to do it and try to improve every time I play", he added.

Januzaj will hope to have played himself into contention for a starting spot in Manchester United's next game, which comes at the weekend away at Leicester City.
