Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Manchester City’s main focus this season will be to do well in the Champions League.

The Citizens were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Barcelona in last season’s Champions League.

The English champions are placed in Group E alongside German champions Bayern Munich, Roma and CSKA Moscow for this term's edition.

"Champions League will be their main focus for the season”, Scholes told ITV.

The former Manchester United midfielder feels that Manchester City’s Middle Eastern owners will be looking ahead to progress for the club in Europe’s elite club competition.

Scholes admits that the Citizens find themselves in a tough group, but the former midfielder believes that they have enough quality to make it through to the Round of 16.

“Their owners will want to see them push on in the Champions League.

“They have a tough group this year, put the players they have they need to go on to win it, and there’s really little excuse not to do well.”

Scholes won the Champions League twice during his time at Manchester United.
