Manchester United Under-21 boss Warren Joyce has eased fears surrounding Luke Shaw's early withdrawal in last night's Under-21 clash against Sunderland.

Joyce, who fielded a strong side against the Black Cats, watched his crop run out comfortable 4-0 winners, with Adnan Januzaj hitting a hat-trick to put pressure on Louis van Gaal for a senior spot.

There were some worries about Shaw however, as the left-back only lasted 45 minutes.

But Joyce insists that was all part of the plan as the former Southampton defender is slowly eased back into action following an injury.

"That was pre-planned with Luke", Joyce told his club's site.

"He was only planned to have that time and the same with Anderson.

"They can do other bits and pieces during the week. Adnan was destined to play a little longer", the Manchester United Under-21 chief added.

The Red Devils paid around £27m to snap up Shaw from Southampton earlier this summer, with left-back earmarked as a long-term fixture in the side.
