Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has admitted his side had a difficult night in Germany this evening as Borussia Dortmund overwhelmed Arsene Wenger's men in the Champions League.

Goals from Ciro Immobile (45th minute) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (48th minute) put Arsenal to the sword as Dortmund bossed the game, enjoying 20 shots on goal, while the Gunners registered just four.

Arteta admits his side found it tough, but insists the Gunners expected a difficult night against Jurgen Klopp's men and were not surprised.

"We faced a top side in one of the most difficult stadiums in Europe", Arteta told Sky Sports.

"From the start they put us under pressure. After you go 1-0 down here it's very difficult, you need to take a risk and they are very good on the break.

"They've got a lot of pace and pressure up front and we knew from playing here in recent years. We couldn't cope with that, we gave the ball away too many times in difficult positions."

And the Spaniard admits that Dortmund were completely in control, dictating the pace of the game.

"They took the game where they wanted to take it and that's a disappointing thing for us.

"I think we had three or four clear chances. In terms of chances it was probably equal."
