Adnan Januzaj is trying to impress Louis van Gaal to get back into the starting line-up at Manchester United.

The Belgian wonderkid was a regular feature last season in the Manchester United team under David Moyes and made 27 league appearances.

However, under Van Gaal the youngster has been relegated to the bench and is yet to start a league game this season, though he has been thrown into the fray late on in matches.

But the 19-year-old has not lost heart and scored a hat-trick against Sunderland’s Under-21 side yesterday to stake his claim for a starting spot in the first team at Old Trafford.

Januzaj said that he is trying his best to get back his berth in the first eleven and even if it requires him to slog it out with the Under-21 side again, he is prepared to put in the hard yards.

The 19-year-old is also not bothered about how many games he played last season as he knows he will have to impress Van Gaal again to get back into the thick of things with the first team.

"I tried to do my best", the Belgian told MUTV.

"Obviously, even if it's reserves level, I always have to show myself and improve. I got a hat-trick but I think I worked hard defensively as well and these are the kind of things I have to do now and at first-team level.

"Of course, I played a lot of games last season and I'm trying to impress the manager once again and get games again this year as well."

At 19, he has already made 40 appearances for Manchester United, though it remains to be seen how Van Gaal accommodates the highly talented youngster in his team consisting of superstars.
