West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has asked for more defensive solidity from his side in their upcoming games.

The Hammers came back twice from behind to get a point against Hull City in a pulsating encounter that finished 2-2 at the KC Stadium last night.

Allardyce is happy with the attacking performance of his side, but believes that they need to be more solid defensively.

"Our ability has to be both ways, in that when we're out of possession we can't let the opposition score", the Hammers manager told the club’s official site.

"We haven't had a clean sheet yet when we had 14 last year.”

Allardyce believes that the Hammers have the attacking depth to hurt teams during the season.

And he feels that West Ham can finish in the top half of the league table if the defenders are on their game for the rest of the campaign.

"With our goalscorers this year, if we can get 14 clean sheets again, we're going to finish in the top ten, and that's guaranteed.

"We've got to start doing our defensive job better.”

West Ham will welcome Liverpool in their next league fixture on Saturday.
