Argentina boss Gerardo Martino has revealed that he might think of giving striker Carlos Tevez an international lifeline after the Juventus star was left out of his team's 2014 World Cup squad.

Tevez has scored 13 goals in 64 matches for Argentina, but was frozen out by former manager Alejandro Sabella after he took charge in 2011.

However Martino, who replaced Sabella after the World Cup, insists that the former Manchester City striker features in his plans for the national squad.

He even added Tevez will be in contention for the number nine shirt along with his countrymen Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero.

"If I have to say where I imagine Tevez in my game plan, it is only at No 9", Martino told Argentine newspaper La Nacion.

"There is no other position and he will be in competition with Higuain and Aguero, and then it is the coach's choice."

The former Barcelona manager also took time to defend his predecessor's decision to omit Tevez from the national scene for the Brazil World Cup.

"I will not be taking four No 9s to the World Cup, so for me, the decision of Sabella [not to take Tevez] was not illogical", the 51-year-old added.
