England Under-21 and Manchester United defender Michael Keane is eager to prove his worth in the Premier League at Burnley.

The 21-year-old joined the Clarets on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United on transfer deadline day.

Keane admits that he is at a very important stage of his career and is eager to taste top flight football to gauge his progress.

The defender has spent time on loan in the Championship at Blackburn, Derby and Leicester, but now is eager to prove his worth in the Premier League at Burnley.

"I think it's a very important time in my career", Keane told MUTV.

"Obviously, I've had a few loans in the Championship and done well but this is a big step up now to the Premier League.

"I want to try to prove myself at this level and I don't think there is a much better place to come and do that than Burnley.”

The England Under-21 international revealed the hectic activity that took place on transfer deadline day which eventually ended with him joining the newly-promoted Premier League side on a loan deal.

“It was hectic and I didn't expect anything to happen when it got to 5pm but I had a call from my brother [Will] and he'd had a call from United saying Burnley were interested.

“When I heard that there was a chance to go and get some games in the Premier League, perhaps more than I would at United, I wanted to jump at the chance.”

Keane has already experienced top flight football this season when he came on from the bench in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Sunderland last month.
