Legendary Scottish manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants UEFA to stage the 2020 European Championship final at Hampden Park.

UEFA has announced plans to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the European Championship by staging the competition across different countries.

Hampden Park is used as the home ground for the Scottish national team and amateur Scottish league club Queen's Park FC.

The 52,000-capacity stadium in Glasgow has staged six UEFA club competition finals, including the 1960 European Cup final that saw Real Madrid decimate Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 to claim the trophy.

Former Manchester United boss Ferguson believes that looking at the rich history of the stadium UEFA cannot ignore Hampden’s Park bid to stage the final for the 2020 Euros.

"Everyone who is involved in the decision making of this only has to look back at the six finals for a start”, the Scot told the FA.

“And each time the clubs who represented their countries in these particular games will have fond memories of it, whether it be Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid, Espanyol, Sevilla, St Etienne or Bayern Munich.

"All these teams who have been there will have memories in their own special way, and I think they'll all be good ones.”

Ferguson started his playing career at Hampden Park with Queens Park FC.
