Carlos Queiroz has ended any doubt over his future by putting pen to paper on a new four-year contract with Iran, with the aim of guiding the country to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The former Manchester United assistant manager was recently linked with the vacant post at Leeds United, but Iran have moved quickly to secure the Portuguese tactician.

And Queiroz, who led Iran to this summer's World Cup in Brazil, has been handed a lucrative contract to extend his stay in Tehran.

"I thank the board members of the Iran Football Federation for their trust again and I hope that I can make this nation proud in a new era", Queiroz said in a statement.

"After the World Cup I said if we have a good programme and preparation we have the ability to finish with a medal at the Asian Cup.
