Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has blamed Louis van Gaal for his eventual departure from Bayern Munich in 2011.

The Argentine defender spent seven seasons at Bayern Munich, winning four Bundesliga titles and four German Cups, amongst various other honours.

He made 259 appearances for the Bavarians before leaving the club in 2011 for La Liga side Malaga.

“I have had a lot of experiences at Bayern”, the Argentine defender was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.

Demichelis revealed that after spending a large part of his career at the club he became a fan of Bayern Munich, but Van Gaal’s arrival changed all that.

He said that things went downhill after the current Manchester United boss arrived at the club and he eventually left for Malaga in January 2011.

Van Gaal joined Bayern Munich in 2009, with Demichelis' appearances becoming fewer in nature, and won the league and cup double in his first season at the club.

“I had used up my strength to fight.

“After spending a long time at Bayern Munich I became a fan of the club almost like the owner’s son.

“But from the first moment of Van Gaal’s arrival it started to stink.”

Demichelis left Malaga to join Atletico Madrid, but eventually joined Manchester City last summer and instantly won the Premier League at the club.
