Spanish outfit Barcelona have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Manchester United and Liverpool target Sergi Roberto to extend his contract for five years.

The Spanish midfielder's contract with the Catalan giants was set to expire in June next year and the Blaugrana did not want to lose him.




The release clause on the deal has been set at €30m and has the potential to go up to €40m.

The 22-year-old is set to sign the new contract within the next few days, ending speculation about his future.

"FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Sergi Roberto to renew his contract", a statement on the club's official site revealed.

Roberto joined Barcelona as a youngster before making his first team debut for the senior side during the 2010/11 season.

Since then he has played a total of 40 matches for the Spanish outfit, scoring two goals.

He has also been part of the Spanish Under-17, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 teams.

The news of his signing a new contract will come as a huge blow for Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur who have been linked with a move for the highly talented Spanish midfielder.
